Entrepreneurship training unlocks opportunities

The City’s Community, Arts and Culture Development (CACD) Department in partnership with the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative recently hosted a skills and entrepreneurship  training programme in various wards in Area South.

The training started on the 12 August and concluded on 9 October 2024. Participants between the ages of 18 and 35 were divided into groups and attended three days of training, covering basic business skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, transformative peace building and CACD work skills. 

Two hundred and fifty young people from the following areas completed the training:

  • Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain
  • Gugulethu
  • Masiphumelele
  • Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay
  • Retreat
  • Capricorn
  • Grassy Park

To celebrate the successful completion of the training interventions, CACD  hosted a graduation event for participants yesterday, 16 October 2024 at the Wynberg Civic Centre.

‘We are delighted to see that so many young people participated in, and completed the programme. Providing learning opportunities is important in unlocking potential and economic opportunities for young people. We would like to once again congratulate all those who completed the course and wish them the best of luck,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health,  Councillor Patricia Van der Ross.
